With an Apple Music subscription, you gain access to a vast library of over 100 million songs. If you wish to save your favorite songs for future listening, Apple Music allows you to add them to your Library, create playlists, and download them for offline playback. You can associate up to ten devices (with a maximum of five computers) with your Apple ID for streaming Apple Music songs and download up to 100,000 songs to your library. The Apple Music Sync Library feature, when activated on all devices signed in with the same Apple ID, allows you to enjoy the entire music library across each device.

However, you may encounter storage limitations on your device before reaching the 100,000-song limit. Over time, you might also find the need to replace older favorites with new trending songs in your Apple Music Library as your tastes evolve. In such cases, it becomes necessary to delete songs from your Library, remove them from playlists, or delete downloaded tracks to free up storage and maintain an organized music collection. In this article, we will guide you on how to delete songs from Apple Music on various devices. Let’s start by understanding the differences between removing a song from the Library, playlist, and downloads.

1. Differences between Apple Music Library, Playlist, and Downloads

Apple Music allows users to add a song to the Library and playlists, and download it for offline listening. When you come across a song you like on Apple Music, you can click the three dots and choose “Add to Library” or “Add to Playlist”. Both actions will make this song appear in your Apple Music across all devices if you have turned the Sync Library feature on.

However, if you wish to have songs added to your Library when adding them to playlists, you need to enable this feature in Apple Music Settings. Without this setting, the song will only be added to the playlist and won’t be found in the Library.

Additionally, to download a song on your iPhone or Android, you must first add the song to the Apple Music Library. Adding the song only to a playlist won’t enable the download feature. Nevertheless, when using Music or iTunes on your computer, you can download a song simply by adding it to a playlist.

Delete Songs from the Library, Playlists, and Downloads

If you delete a song from the Library, it will be removed from all of your devices, including its downloaded track on each device.

If you remove a song from the playlist, the song and its downloaded track will remain in the Library.

As long as a song is still in your Library, removing the downloaded track from one device will not affect the same downloaded song on other devices.
